MICHIGAN — The federal panel that advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention voted to recommend that the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine be used in children ages 12-15 after the Food and Drug Administration announced earlier this week that it was expanding its emergency use authorization for the vaccine. Expecting the CDC to approve the expanded use, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said prior to the vote that as soon as the agency allowed Michigan would allow teens age 12-15 to receive the vaccine. Kids 12 and up are eligible to get vaccinated in Michigan Thursday, and already CVS Pharmacy, Rite Aid and other organizations have begun scheduling appointments. A parent or legal guardian's consent is required for COVID-19 vaccination, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
