Pickens Couple Sentenced For 2018 Killing During Robbery

ALICEVILLE, AL — An Aliceville man and woman who enter guilty pleas in connection to the 2018 shooting death of a man during an attempt robbery both received lengthy prison sentences this week. 24th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Andy Hamlin's office says Tommie Terail Jones, 32, plead guilty to murder and attempted murder in February 2020 and will now serve two life sentences for firing the fatal shot that killed 31-year-old Daniel Perez and for attempting to kill his roommate. Jessica Shari Long, 31, also submitted a guilty plea to the murder charge and was given 20 years in prison for her involvement. Perez was shot and killed at his home located next to the Fast Gas convenience store offMemorial Parkway in Aliceville on the night of June 1, 2018. Hamlin said Jones was developed as a suspect early in the investigation and admitted to investigators that he and Long were attempting to rob Perez, which resulted in a physical struggle when Perez resisted. He then pointed out that Long handed a gun to Jones during the fight, which he used to fire one shot, hitting Perez in the chest and killed him.
