Description
Hey Craigslist! My name's Farley and I do a project called Feefawfum. The project was started in Montreal in 2012 and took a break when I moved to California. The break then got extended because of this whole Covid-19 thing, but I spent quarantine writing and recording and am excited to team up with other people to flesh the material out further, start playing it live once that's safe, and have a blast doing it. The vibe of the music is arty/math-rock stuff but (hopefully) kind of funny and not too self-serious. A friend of mine said it made them think of a cross between the Mars Volta and the Strokes, which I think is as good a description as any. Deerhoof has always been a big influence on me, and I hear Feefawfum in the same vein as more recent stuff like Black midi, Squid, and Tropical Fuck Storm. Here's a few recordings to give you a sense of the range of things I've been working on. - A demo! This one is meant to just be a straight-ahead banger. There's a few weird chords in there, but nothing too weird time-wise. I think I was listening to the Beths when I wrote it. https://soundcloud.com/farleymiller/demo-appetite/s-y2S2gki1SV8 - A demo! This one has some straight-ahead rock stuff, but the verse and instrumental riff are a bit weird with the meter. https://soundcloud.com/farleymiller/demo-dka-june-2020/s-9eQ79i80qks - A release! This one is a little bit further out, and has a fair amount of odd stuff with the meter. https://cuchabatarecords.bandcamp.com/track/brown I played all of the parts on these recordings, and I'd be content to play either bass or guitar live depending on you and what you like doing. (I still can't get the coordination right to play drums and sing at the same time.) I'm principally looking for a drummer first, since I think that will likely set the tone for things to come, but if you play guitar, bass, or something else please by all means reach out! I'm always pretty open when it comes to the nature of a collaboration—can just be playing together live, but if the music really resonates with you and you fancy co-writing songs and recording and all of that other stuff I'm into it. Some other details: - I'm based in Berkeley. Happy to travel for the right people. - I'm fully vaxxed and am looking for the same. - I'm in my early 30s. I'm not too concerned about your age—or anything else, really—as long as this feels like something you'd really want to do. - That said, if your life circumstances (or your desires) would never allow you to travel to play music it might not be a good fit. I'm trying to be realistic about what's possible right now with Covid, but touring is something that I would like to do *someday*. - If you can improvise that's a plus. - If you can sing (especially harmony) that is also a plus. - I guess I should also write the word post-punk somewhere in this listing. Best way to get at me is via email here or on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/feefawfumband/ Looking forward to hearing from you! Please send things that you've done!
