The recent violent events on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have caused dozens of deaths and injuries, damage to property on both sides of the border, and created distrust and hostility between these two neighboring countries. Tensions remain and it will be difficult to move on from the bloodiest incident between these two countries since independence. Both governments and other actors need to live up to their responsibility to prevent violence and uphold peace. This roundtable will discuss the drivers of the conflict, the factors and actors shaping it, as well as dynamics and prospects for the future development of Kyrgyz-Tajik relations.
