Description

Always wanted to sew? No experience needed in this free beginner workshop and you'll bring home a project! Make a donation of your choice to attend this workshop and establish the foundations of sewing. Funds will go to help provide supplies for the Fiber Studio at MakerSpace Charlotte. Unravel the “sewing machine mystique” on one of our machines, or bring yours from home. In this beginner class, we’ll cover basics like cutting tools, pressing, ironing, types of stitches, and more. You’ll learn and practice sewing both straight and curved lines, starting and stopping, turning corners, and backstitching. Make a small project to take with you and show off your new skills! Whether you have dreams of quilting or making that awesome cosplay, this 2-hour workshop is where to start. The Sewing 101 Workshop is taught by Tess, of Fabled Fabrications. A props, accessories, & costume company she started with her boyfriend, Joey. The goal of Fabled Fabrications is to work with nerdy groups & individuals to bring their epic fantasy scenarios to life. They currently work with LARPs (Live action role play) to create immersive settings, garb, and characters that bring the fantasy storyline to the next level. Tess could be described theatre geek gone rogue. She has been creating characters and functional art for as long as she can remember. She learned to sew & crochet from her mother in her early teens, and has since used those skills to create costumes for plays & holidays, and personalized gifts for her friends & family. Her repertoire has expanded to include clay & paper mache sculpting, leatherwork, & a bit of graphic design. Tess believes that anything and everything is figureoutable when you put your mind to it, & there is no reason not to live out your nerdy dreams to the fullest! Not recommended for children under 10. Materials included! Guests are asked to be on time for events. Face coverings are required. Masks must cover the nose and mouth, as mandated in NC. Hand sanitizer and bathrooms are available for hand washing during the event. Guests will be asked to maintain social distance during the class. MakerSpace Charlotte is located in the brick side door, up the ramp. Ring bell for entry. Want more?
