NORTHPORT, NY — Kekey and Goldie, two female calicos, are the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Cats of the Week. The pair loves each other like sisters, according to Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue. Both girls have found themselves homeless when their previous owners moved into an apartment that does not accept pets, Wild said. Kekey is a 6-month-old grey calico. She is gentle and playful, according to Wild. "She is a lovebug, that loves to be pet and held," she said. "A bit shy at first, once she trusts you, she will curl up with you and sit on your lap, by your side or even sleep with you at night. She follows her humans around like a dog. She was bottle fed as a baby and loves people. The only one she loves as much, is Goldie, her best friend and older sister that she has known all her tiny, short life." Goldie, a 2-year-old calico, has been through a lot, according to Wild. Goldie was incredibly sad when her first owner died. She was taken in by her former owner and finally felt loved again before she was left homeless once again because of the move. "She has taken it hard and is sad in a cage," Wild said. "She looks out for her little sister though and loves her a ton. She misses her family very much, and we want to find her a new home soon. She must be adopted with Kekey, because she has lost so much, we believe this keeps her going. She is gentle and shy and calm but very affectionate once she feels safe. We want to find both a home together that they will never have to leave again." Both cats are spayed, have all their shots, are litter box trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.
