WAYNE, NJ — A former Spring Valley resident is charged with child abuse and neglect after an investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit and the Wayne Police Department. The charges and arrest stem from an instance in May 2020 when an unresponsive 4-week-old was taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center. At the hospital, doctors discovered external and internal injuries on the child, the prosecutor said. The investigation led to the arrest of Slobodan Todoric, 30, now of Wayne, who was released on pretrial monitoring after a court appearance Tuesday. Todoric is a Rockland County native, the Clarkstown Daily Voice reported. He is charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child, in addition to the charges above. Detectives interviewed "numerous witnesses" during the investigation, the prosecutor said. If convicted, Todoric could face five to 10 years for the aggravated assault charge, five to 10 years on the endangering the welfare of a child charge, and up to 18 months on the abuse and neglect charge.
