New 'Uptown Night Market' Coming To Harlem

HARLEM, NY — A new outdoor "night market" is coming to Harlem, according to the entertainment group behind a pair of popular outdoor events elsewhere in the city. The new Uptown Night Market, described as "a global celebration of cuisine, community and culture" will happen monthly in West Harlem from 4–10 p.m., starting June 10. It will continue on the second Thursday of the month through October. It will be held under the Riverside Drive Viaduct near Dinosaur Bar-B-Que's 125th Street restaurant, according to organizers MASC Hospitality Group, but a precise location has not been revealed. MASC has organized the Bronx Night Market, held Saturdays at Fordham Plaza, as well as the drive-in movie theater at Radial Park in Astoria, Queens. (Gillian Todd) Billed as an "entertaining summer option for locals and tourists alike," the Uptown Night Market will include a large selection of local food and beverage vendors, as well as arts and crafts, packaged goods, arts and performances, organizers said. More than 50 minority-owned small businesses from the neighborhood and throughout the city will be included. The full list of vendors is still being curated, a spokesperson said. The new market has the support of Community Board 9 and the West Harlem Development Corporation (WHDC), MASC said. "After all we've been through, we can't wait to have some good food and fun times here, in West Harlem," said Zead Ramadan, WHDC's executive director. "It's going to be fantastic for the whole family as we enjoy great international food from our community restaurants and throughout the city."
