GLEN BURNIE, MD — An Anne Arundel County police officer was assaulted by a suspect who grabbed the officer's arm through an open vehicle window and attempted to drag him while the man drove off. The man also tried to run over another officer and crash into a parked cop car. The incident unfolded May 10 shortly before noon. Officers checked out an occupied black 2020 BMW parked at the Exxon located at 8001 Crain Highway in Glen Burnie. According to a police report, the officers saw marijuana in the vehicle along with two black duffle bags. The officers instructed the driver to step out of the vehicle, but he refused. That's when the driver threw the car into drive and accelerated toward an officer. Another officer reached inside the vehicle and attempted to grab the driver, but the man instead latched on to the officer's arm and dragged him along with the vehicle. The officer eventually was able to break free from the man's grasp and fell to the ground. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The vehicle sped off and a "lookout" was broadcast for the vehicle and the suspect, the police report noted. One of the black duffle bags was found along Winding Wind Road and it contained money, a loaded 9 mm Glock 43 with an attached laser sight and a "large amount" of drugs. Officers found the man running out of an apartment building along Winding Wood Road and climbing into a white Hyundai Elantra. He again tried to run over an officer and then attempted to hit a cop car, according to the police report. He ended up hitting a tree along Green Branch Lane and officers were able to apprehend him. The driver had a BMW key fob with him, which they found parked and running along Long Branch Terrace. Montell Gary Mills, 23, of Baltimore was arrested and charged in this incident. A second black bag was found inside the vehicle, which contained heroin, Ziploc baggies with marijuana, and a clear magazine with 10 .380 caliber rounds. Officers also found a digital scale, a speed loader and several cell phones.
