NEW HAVEN, CT —A 43-year-old New Haven man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for gun and crack cocaine possession, federal authorities said. Federal prosecutors in 2018, said Kevin McFarlane, also known as "Jabari McBurn" and "Dexter Creque," had a loaded Glock model 43 9mm semiautomatic handgun and approximately 97 grams of crack. The gun had been reported stolen in Florida in 2017. McFarlane's criminal history includes a 2004 conviction in Connecticut for sale of a hallucinogen/narcotic, and a 2007 conviction in Florida for murder in the second degree — he was released from Florida State Prison in July 2017, prosecutors said. Imprisoned since his arrest in 2018 on related state charges, McFarlane pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of crack and one count of gun in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime in September 2019. Investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration's New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad and the New Haven Police Department, it was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods.
