2 Planes Collide Over Cherry Creek State Park

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, CO — Two small planes collided midair Wednesday morning over Cherry Creek State Park, fire officials said. No injuries were reported. One of the planes, a Cirrus SR 22, crashed in a field, authorities said. The other aircraft, a larger Swearingen Metroliner SA226TC operated by Key Lime Air, was able to land at Centennial Airport. A South Metro Fire Rescue crew and deputies were called at 10:25 a.m. to the field where the SR 22 crashed, near East Belleview Avenue and South Peoria Street in Greenwood Village, authorities said. Two people were on board the SR 22, but a parachute was deployed that allowed the plane to land safely, according to John Bartmann, a public information officer with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office. The National Transportation Safety Board was investigating.
