ROUND ROCK, TX — A Round Rock nurse, who was once a Pennsylvanian firefighter, heroically put out a fire in front of St. David's Round Rock Medical Center on Friday.
Deanna Doering, BSN, RN, quickly responded to a fire near the hospital's parking lot, which was caused by a cigarette bud, by grabbing a fire extinguisher and putting out the small fire within minutes, hospital officials told Patch Monday.
Deanna Doering, BSN, RN, was recognized on Friday by the Round Rock Fire Department, where she was declared St. David's Round Rock Medical Center's Firefighter of the Year and gifted with a hard hat as a token of their appreciation. "It was a very sweet tribute during Nurses Week and also a friendly reminder that cigarette buds can easily start grass fires when not properly disposed of, especially when winds are high during this time of year," officials said.
