JERSEY CITY, NJ — Jersey City has no plans to stop its beautification initiative and four new murals could be the newest additions to the city wall's growing collection. Four small murals are proposed on a wall under an overpass on Monmouth and Coles Street. The City Council will vote Thursday on a resolution for the execution of a right-of-entry agreement that would make the proposed murals a reality. The walls are owned by Newport Associates Development Company, Revetment Property and Embankment Property. The resolution would allow the city to work with the companies and partner to paint murals on the walls and further the beautification program. The Jersey City Mural Arts program has been in practice for seven years and established 153 murals across the city. So far, 96 artists have participated in the program. A virtual map of the murals throughout Jersey City can be found online as well as information on each artist and piece. All four walls have graffiti on them which will be removed before the new mural is painted. Details on the design of the murals and the artist have not been finalized or released yet. The full resolution, which includes photos of the proposed walls, can be found online.
