Organization Overview: The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) is the largest expanded learning time organization in Silicon Valley, serving over 2,500 K-12 students at 13 sites in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Redwood City. In neighborhoods where 1/3 of the youth drop out of high school, BGCP members learn the importance of education and become part of a community of learners, wanting and expecting to succeed in school. In three clubhouses and ten school sites, we implement proven social and academic interventions that most impact a child’s achievement in school and in life. Position Overview: As Janitor, you will ensure the upkeep and cleanliness of one of our facilities this summer as we welcome students back on-site to participate in our summer programs for high school students. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, flexible, and willing to take on non-routine cleaning and special projects as needed. The Janitor will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing offices, meeting rooms, bathrooms, kitchen and dining room as well as public areas. You will report to the Facilities Coordinator on the Operations team. Position Title: Janitor Employment Status: Seasonal, Full-Time Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour Dates & Hours: June 7th - July 23rd; Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM Location: Redwood City What will you do? Keep building and property in clean and orderly condition Perform routine maintenance activities inside of building Perform routine upkeep of exterior areas, green space, and parking lot Perform heavy cleaning duties Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, or vacuum floors Gather and empty trash Scrub, sanitize, and supply restroom facilities Dust furniture, walls, and equipment. Clean windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and other cleansers Shampoo or steam-clean carpets and rugs, if necessary Manage inventory of cleaning supplies Handle emergency cleaning and upkeep requests Notify manager regarding the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems Perform non-routine cleaning and special projects as needed Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, visitors and staff Undertake other duties as assigned Qualifications the ideal candidate will have: MUST provide proof of COVID vaccination by 6/4/2021 (if eligible for medical exemption, please communicate directly with BGCP's Human Resources team) 2+ years janitorial or custodian experience High school diploma or GED equivalent Ability to work well under minimal supervision Strong attention to detail and capacity to take action Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures Ability to stand, walk, and bend for many hours Ability to perform repetitive motion for long periods of time Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions Knowledge of occupational hazard safety rules Ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders and work at particular heights Enjoys working around youth, particularly high school students Positive attitude, team player, strong customer service orientation Negative COVID-19 test result (prior to start) Live-Scan clearance and negative TB test results (prior to start) Mandated Reporter Training certificate (prior to start) Sexual Harassment Training certificate (prior to start)
