Description
I'm trying to build a small group of experienced writers to discuss work. Nonfiction only -- including narrative nonfiction, (lyrical) essays, poetry, a-genre work. This would be monthly on Zoom for the time being.
I am NOT interested in a workshop vibe where we tell each other how we would have done it. This would be more in the model of sharing one's reading journey -- what you took the goal of the writing to be, where you were confused, what you loved, what directions you could imagine it taking.
Special interest in people from minoritized groups and/or working across or against genre. I am 40s, trans, with MFA.
If you're interested, reply with answers to these questions:
What genre(s) do you mainly write in? Which are you interested in working on in this group?
Briefly, describe your experience as a writer – did you study in college, grad school? Have you published a little, a lot or not at all? Have you participated in writing groups since finishing your schooling?
Is there a model for group work discussion that you have found most useful?
Do you identify as a member of an underrepresented or marginalized group? If so, which, and how much does that identity factor into your writing?
Name your 3-5 most significant writerly influences.
What are you hoping to get out of a writing group?
