Description
NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville police issued tickets to more than 100 drivers during an April crackdown against distracted driving.
Of these citations, 90 were issued to drivers who violated Illinois law that required cellphone use to be hands-free while you're driving. Police gave out 12 tickets for seatbelt violations, along with 36 citations for other violations that included illegal transportation of cannabis and driving under the influence of drugs.
"We strongly enforce distracted driving laws for one reason – to save lives," Sergeant Rick Krakow said in a news release.
Krakow warned drivers, "Choose to drive distracted, and you'll have a phone in one hand and a ticket in the other."
