Description

MOKENA, IL — The Mokena Village Board has approved an amendment for its wastewater treatment plant improvements contract, so it can pursue grant funding criteria. Village Administrator John Tomasoski said the village has been aggressive in pursing grant funding for the waste water treatment plant project. The grant criteria through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity requires the submission of a business enterprise program utilization plan. "It will be an increased cost for implementing this business enterprise program utilization plan," Tomasoski said. According to board documents, this program, which accounts for 25 percent of total grant funds, requires 20 percent of the funds be spent with minority-owned subcontractors and 5 percent with female-owned subcontractors. The cost increase is estimated at $85,000, Tomasoski said. The amendment also includes an extension of 75 days to finish the project. Tomasoski said the extension allows time to hire the subcontractors and response time for ComEd to approve the final contract for relocation work on the site. In February, the Mokena Village Board awarded a $9.8 million bid for the waste water treatment plant improvements to Williams Brothers Construction, Inc.
