MILL VALLEY, CA — A Mill Valley man implicated in a college bribery scandal was sentenced Wednesday to three months in prison, the Associated Press reports.
William McGlashan, Jr. in February admitted to paying off someone $50,000 to correct his son's ACT test answers according to the report.
The former private equity executive who cofounded an investment fund with U2's Bono was among several high-profile figures ensnared in "Operation Varsity Blues," a sting that laid bare tactics the wealthy use to buy their children into the nation's best colleges.
McGlashan expressed remorse in a statement to the judge at a hearing held via teleconference according to the report.
"In a world where fairness is in short supply what I did is totally unacceptable," McGlashan said.
"I'm totally committed to using my resources and time to making a positive impact in the world the rest of my life," he said.
