OZARK, AL — The Shelton State Buccaneers (38-15, 23-9 ACCC) will soon play on junior college baseball's biggest stage after pounding Wallace-Dothan 22 – 6 Wednesday in a winner-take-all championship game at the ACCC Baseball Tournament. The win marks the fifth ACCC Championship won by longtime Shelton State baseball coach Bobby Sprowl and will see the legendary head coach once again return to the NJCAA World Series later this month. The offensive showcase was sparked in the top of the second with a monster grand slam by sophomore Carson Clowers to go up 5-1 after the Govs and Bucs traded runs in the first. that would also see former Hillcrest High Patriot Garrett McMillan hit for the cycle, grabbing a single, double, triple and home run in the game. While Wallace-Dothan managed to scratch across five more runs after getting on the board first, the Bucs never stopped pouring it on, with McMillan and fellow former Hillcrest High Patriot Colby Smelley both going yard in the game. Wednesday's final was the third time the teams locked up in the conference tournament, with Shelton winning 13-3 on Tuesday in the first game of the championship round, while the Govs took the first meeting 12-0 on Sunday. McMillan and Clowers both finished the game with 5 RBI, with Freshman Ty Hutto got the win on the mound for the Bucs, throwing 7.2 innings. The right-hander from Moulton, Alabama struck out seven on the day, allowing two walks, 10 hits and five runs. Shelton State will now advance to the 2021 NJCAA Baseball World Series at Sam Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, Colorado beginning May 29.
