Description

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will close lanes next week as contractors plan to tension the arch cables on Interstate 20/59 at Exit 73 and install lighting on the bridge in Tuscaloosa. ALDOT says the McFarland Boulevard eastbound inside and center lanes, directly under the interstate, will close Tuesday, May 18 and Wednesday, May 19 from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m., while the I-20/59 eastbound and westbound inside lanes across the bridge will also close during this time. Additionally, McFarland Boulevard, directly under the interstate, will close in both directions for the contractor to complete the tensioning and allow for lighting installation beginning Friday, May 21 at 11 p.m. until Monday, May 24 at 5 a.m.. ALDOT says the contractor will also use rolling roadblocks on the interstate at night during thatweekend. This work is part of an ongoing project from near Exit 73 to near Exit 77 that is intended to improve safety, mobility and commerce. Work is expected to be complete by this summer. Motorists should expect delays due to the work and are encouraged to use Skyland Boulevard, Interstate 359 or other alternate routes.
