The oldest continuos settlement in North America is a place called Celilo Falls. It's about 7 miles east of The Dalles OR. Argue your case all you like but, the fact remains proven that is the place that holds the #1 spot for continuous settlement In North America. It started approx. the day after the flood waters cleared from the ending of the ice age, about 12,500 years ago. That brings me to "The decision at The Dalles" Back in the 1990s the Oregon Legislature was tasked with the question of what city in Oregon holds the title of "end of the Oregon Trail" Oregon City or The Dalles. EVERYONE that migrated in the mid 1800s. Arrived in The Dalles. At that point they had a decision to make, head on to the valley over the mountain and the Barlow trail or down the Columbia River on rafts. Either choice was equally dangerous. Fast forward to today and Native Oregonians are a minority in their home state. When the mass migration to the Oregon territories began it was the road less traveled. ONLY those willing to do what it takes made it. Many thousands gave their life blazing that trail. So those that ended up in Oregon were the toughest strongest people with the most endurance. For that reason we Oregonians are the trailblazers in almost every area of society. 1st to recycle circa 1970.the first to regulate property taxes1980s.. The first to give health care for all, starting with children and women. 1990s. Now decriminalization 2021. That brings me to my point. Unless the ones that have been here Native or Long enough to know how it goes in Oregon. Helps convince others that it's unacceptable to be anything but the Trailblazer, then we are off the Oregon Trail and headed down the rabbit trail... Let's reel it in. Let me just list off a few more of the #1s in this state. The Beavers back to Back championships.
