Description

On Juneteenth we'll honor the cultural integrity and community service of Elders 80-years and older, 2:00PM, Turner Chapel AME, Fort Wayne. Juneteenth symbolizes the emancipation of People of Afrikan Descent enslaved in these United States of America. Since that Jubilee Day, June 19, 1865, our communities have celebrated the removal of the enslavers' iron chains. 2021 is the 156th year of that celebration, and this year in Fort Wayne, Indiana, we Honor Elders who have survived, thrived, and shown us the way through trial and trauma to see ourselves whole and spiritually intact. The Elders Council of the Juneteenth Collaborative Committee will accept nominations of men and women 80-years and older for this recognition, who have sustained their cultural integrity and provided us with valuable community service. You can nominate an elder by filling out the form at this link and emailing or mailing it to either address at the bottom of the form. The 2:00PM Elders Jubilee Brunch will be under a tent in the parking lot at Turner Chapel AME, 836 E Jefferson Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46803. We'll be able to serve 100 attendees brunch. Both Soul Food and Vegetarian fare will be provided, with music by a local jazz ensemble. Jubilee Tickets are $10.00 on a first-come, first-served basis, and all proceeds go to the Juneteenth Collaborative Committee.
