Description

Please join Reverend Bolivar Flores as he launches his latest book Hispanic Religious Leaders and Civic Engagement, on Thursday, May 20. Reverend Flores' latest literary work examines the benefits of increased civic engagement in spiritual congregations. When people are empowered to exercise their own agency and participate in political and social systems, they are able to challenge the structural barriers that might have initially limited their participation in these same processes. Hispanic Religious Leaders and Civic Engagement outlines several variables that impact the civic engagement of Latino congregants: denominational affiliation, pastors’ facilitation of and linkage to civic engagement opportunities, the degree of integration of immigrant congregants, congregants’ rate of church attendance, and the provision of resources and services in both English and Spanish. The book also includes a section on the role of Latinos and religious leaders in the Black Lives Matter movement. For all inquiries, please email [email protected]
