PATCHOGUE, NY — A Long Island woman recently filed a lawsuit against Suffolk County police, claiming she was sexually abused by an officer. The woman claimed that while she was a member of the Suffolk County Police Explorers Program she was mentally, physically and sexually abused by a troop leader between 1992 and 1995, according to the lawsuit. The abuse started when she was 15, she said. The woman said she made several complaints that were not properly investigated and buried under a "blue wall of silence." The lawsuit was filed after Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the Child Victims Act, which extended the statute of limitation for victims of child sexual abuse. The lawsuit details multiple instances of abuse, including one time when the troop leader gave the girl a supposedly nonalcoholic drink, causing her to pass out then wake up to the troop leader on her, according to court documents. Suffolk police said they do not comment on pending litigation.
