OYSTER BAY, NY — A variety of free weekday senior citizen activities that were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be offered by Oyster Bay Town's Department of Community and Youth Services in community centers throughout town, officials said. Popular programs like Tai Chi, line dancing, and exercise classes will return May 17 and will run through June 25, according to a news release. Supervisor Joseph Saladino invited residents to participate in the free activities, saying "they can once again enjoy the company of others, make new friends, and stay active." "Our senior activities are some of the most popular programs the town offers, and I expect this year to be in higher demand than ever before as seniors can finally get out and be active as infection rates decline, and vaccination rates climb," he added. The activities will run each day of the week from Monday to Friday. Seniors interested in any of the activities must reserve a spot in advance. Due to the pandemic and restrictions currently in place, class sizes are limited, and only one class will be permitted per week. For more information, call the Division of Senior Citizens Services at (516) 797-7940, or visit www.oysterbaytown.com.
