MADISON, WI— The State Assembly will vote on a bill regarding playing the national anthem before sporting events in venues that received public funding.
"Under this bill, no sporting event may be held in a venue constructed at least in part with public moneys unless the event is preceded by the playing or singing of the national anthem," according to the proposal.
The proposed bill received unanimous support from the Committee on State Affairs on May 6 with 12 ayes.
According to a report from the Associated Press, there is no punishment for violating the bill.
"If approved by the Assembly, it would also have to pass the Senate and be signed by Gov. Tony Evers before becoming law," the report said.
