GREAT NECK, NY — Great Neck School District residents approved a $252 million spending plan with a roughly two % property tax levy increase on Tuesday night. The spending plan was approved 2,120 votes to 1,372. Incumbent school board president Barbara Berkowitz, a nine-year member of the district's Board of Education, defeated Michael S. Glickman, garnering 1,849 votes to his 1,589. She will begin her 1oth term in office in July. Grant Toch, who ran unopposed, garnered 2,521 votes. The library budget was approved 2,228 votes to 1,142. The Great Neck School District was one of four on Long Island to hold its budget vote and school board elections on Tuesday to avoid a conflict with the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, which celebrates the giving of the Torah to the Israelites on Mount Sinai. The other districts included West Hempstead, Hewlett-Woodmere, and Lawrence.
