NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Laura Curran, a Democrat from Baldwin, has officially announced her reelection campaign for Nassau County Executive.
Curran made the announcement Tuesday morning on the steps of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola, surrounded by supporters.
She is serving her first term in office as Nassau County Executive, and was sworn in to the position on Jan. 1, 2018. Curran is the first woman to be elected county executive in Nassau.
"I am so grateful to Nassau voters for putting their trust in me nearly four years ago. Since then, we have accomplished incredible things, making Nassau a better and safer place to live," Curran said. "It has been a difficult year, no doubt — but Nassau communities answered the pandemic with compassion, resolve and common sense. In addressing this crisis, I worked every day to live up to the example set by our residents. With the success of my administration's vaccination program, we are now ready to tackle Nassau's recovery head on. My next four years will offer more than a return to normal. Together, we will invest in Nassau's future, create thousands of new jobs, and write Nassau's next chapter."
Prior to being elected county executive, Curran served in the Nassau County Legislature from 2014 through 2017.
In addition to Curran, the top of the ticket for Nassau County Democrats includes Ryan Cronin for county comptroller and Justin R. Brown for clerk.
