Description

UPPER MARLBORO, MD — Officers said they saved an injured bald eagle chick from a fallen tree in Upper Marlboro. The bird was trapped after the tree containing its nest toppled on May 1, police noted. A good samaritan spotted the wounded eaglet, an incident report mentioned. The write-up added that the parents escaped, but the chick was stuck underneath the downed branches. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police explained that Officer First Greenfield reached out to the Owl Moon Raptor Center, a wildlife rehabilitation clinic in Boyds. Volunteer Nancy McDonald responded and helped pull the bird out from the branches, the press release continued. Photos of the operation are available here. A Facebook post informed that workers took the eaglet to Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research in Newark, Delaware. Officials expect the chick to make a full recovery. Marylanders can report animals in distress by calling 1-877-463-6497 during weekday business hours. Subscribe to your local Patch newsletter.
