BALTIMORE, MD â Fireworks are canceled this year in Baltimore for Independence Day. The cancellation of the 2021 Fourth of July show comes after the 2020 fireworks were also called off due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts delivered the news during the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore's Tuesday edition of "Downtown Download," a webinar hosted by the organization with updates on events downtown.
Traditionally fireworks have been set off around the Inner Harbor, attracting people to the downtown area.
The city did not want to put people at risk of a super-spreader event, according to Donna Sawyer, the CEO of the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts. While the Fourth of July fireworks show is canceled, "we are hoping" for the New Year's Eve show to go on, Sawyer said, according to The Baltimore Sun.
