This event is free and open to the public.
All needles, sharps, and epi-pens accepted!
Needles must be in screw top, hard plastic containers
The Needle Disposal Day is a partnership between Glencoe Regional Health and the McLeod Education and Drug Awareness (MEADA) Coalition of McLeod County. The free event will take place Tuesday, Sept. 14 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Glencoe Regional Health’s North Parking Lot.
The event allows the community to bring in their used needles, sharp and EpiPens and have them disposed of safely and at no cost by a medical waste company.
Safe and proper disposal of needles and other sharps is very important. Used needles are dangerous to people and pets because they can cause injuries and spread infections that cause serious health conditions. While it is currently legal in Minnesota to put used sharps in a laundry detergent bottle with a lid (sealed with tape) into the garbage, this is highly discouraged because of the injury and health risks it places on garbage hauler and processing facility workers, in addition to the environment.
To have your needles disposed of at this event, they must be placed in hard-plastic screw-top containers. Needles placed in inappropriate containers will not be accepted. Examples of appropriate plastic containers include laundry detergent bottles and peanut butter jars.
Volunteers will be present at the event to help guide, process, and answer any questions, but will not help carry, handle, or touch containers of needles. For more information, call 320-864-1257 or visit the MEADA website at mcleodmeada.org.
