Press release from the Arlington County Government: May 7, 2021 The Arlington County Board will consider and act on dozens of items at its Regular Board Meeting on Saturday, May 15, 2021 and its Recessed Meeting on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. Saturday, May 15 – Regular County Board Meeting View the agenda and staff reports (Note: some reports are posted closer to the meeting date). Vision Zero Action Plan: The County Board will consider adoption of the five-year Vision Zero Action Plan that identifies a path toward eliminating all transportation related fatalities and severe injuries in Arlington, while ensuring safe, healthy and equitable mobility for all by 2030. This plan uses findings from data analysis and community engagement to identify transportation safety target areas throughout the County, action items to improve those areas and performance and progress reporting metrics for continued evaluation and transparency. To read the staff report, scroll to Item No. 31 on the agenda. Crystal Plaza 1: The Board will consider a plan that would allow for the redevelopment of 2001 S. Clark Street to create two residential towers with a total of 758 dwelling units as well as ground floor retail in each tower. Additionally, the project would provide a new segment of South Bell Street, a replaced segment of The Underground pedestrian concourse beneath the site, and a new 7,200 sq. ft. open space known as a Pedestrian Connection. Fire Station 8: The Board will consider a nearly $2.9M increase in the construction contract for Fire Station 8 (4845 Lee Highway) for a total authorization of nearly $20M including contingency. Additional funding comes from bond premium and will be reflected in the CIP. Fire Station 8 will be the first County building with a Biosolar green roof. EcoAction Tree Canopy Fund: The Board will consider adjustments to the existing criteria for the EcoAction Arlington Tree Canopy Fund program, administered in collaboration with the Department of Parks and Recreation. These adjustments would allow for an exploratory project that will expand the criteria and allow for valuable mature trees to be maintained with the goal of developing a process for reviewing and administering maintenance grants so the County can conserve additional tree canopy. Donation of Cummings Foundation Services: The Board will consider a donation of services from the Cummings Foundation for Behavioral Health, valued at approximately $220,000, to improve empirically-based services and resources for the mental health and wellness of Arlington County public safety agencies (Police, Fire, Sheriff's Office and Office of Public Safety Communications and Emergency Management). The Cummings Foundation for Behavioral Health, a private nonprofit organization recognized for its behavioral health focus, desires to partner with Arlington County Police Department to conduct related research on occupational stressors and develop a holistic wellness model for Arlington County first responders that can also serve as a template for public safety agencies around the country. RTA for Public Hearings on Chapter 17 of Arlington County Code, Civilian Oversight Board: The Board will consider requests to authorize advertisement of public hearings on several items relating to Arlington County Code and law enforcement. One item involves an ordinance to repeal, reenact and recodify Chapter 17 (Failure to Identify and miscellaneous offenses and provisions) of the Arlington County Code to update outdated references and reflect current practices. May 18– Recessed County Board Meeting The virtual Recessed Meeting will begin at 3 p.m. with reports from the Board Members and the County Manager. Public Hearings No earlier than 6:30 p.m. the Board will hold a public hearing and consider items pulled from the Saturday Consent Agenda. Regular public hearings will be held after carryover Consent Agenda items are considered. Presentation of CIP: The Board will hear a presentation on the proposed FY 2022-FY 2024 Capital Improvement Plan, which is the County's plan for building, upgrading, or replacing County facilities and infrastructure. The proposal includes plans for safety buildings and assets, parks, libraries, technology systems, and water, sewer, stormwater and transportation infrastructure.
