Press release from the Colorado Springs Police Department: 2021-05-11 On May 10, 2021 at approximately 5:40PM, representatives from the Colorado Springs Fire Department were dispatched to a residence in the 00 block of West Cheyenne Road in response to a reported structure fire. While extinguishing the flames, firefighters located a deceased person in close proximity to the residence. Given the circumstances, officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to conduct a death investigation. A search of the area determined no additional people were in or near the residence. Representatives from the Violent Crimes Homicide/Assault Unit were contacted and subsequently responded to assume responsibility for the investigation. While the El Paso County Coroner's Office will make the official cause and manner of death determination, the death is being investigated as a homicide. This is the 16 th homicide investigation in 2021. The CSPD investigated 18 homicides at this time last year.
