JERSEY CITY, NJ — Several new ordinances and plans are hitting the desks of Jersey City municipal councilors this week for a vote. The Jersey City Municipal Council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday and will be held online. This week, the council will vote on whether to adopt the city's 2021 Climate and Energy Action Plan. The 103-page plan is the first of its kind in the city and offers steps the city can take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by advancing projects that not only improve residents' quality of life but also save energy and money. Also, on the agenda is a second reading of an ordinance to establish the Jersey City Arts and Culture Trust Fund Committee and Distribution of Funds. The ordinance comes after voters in November approved an Arts and Culture Trust Fund to create funding sources for artists and arts organizations in the city. The committee would consist of seven members, as follows: a. The Mayor or his/her designeeb. Six residents of Jersey City representing each Ward (A-F), nominated through an openpublic nomination form and appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of Councilc. One non-voting designee of the Jersey City Arts Councild. One non-voting designee of the Jersey City Director of Cultural Affairse. One non-voting City Council member or their designee The Council meeting can be viewed online and is open to the public. Residents can speak during the public speak portion of the meeting, but must sign up before the meeting.
