Description
PALM SPRINGS, CA — A woman was injured Tuesday while hiking a mountain trail in Palm Springs, requiring firefighters to arrange a helicopter airlift to extricate her.
The "hiker down" call was received at about 1:30 p.m. from a reporting party trekking the North Lykken Trail, located west of the area of Murray Canyon and South Palm Canyon drives, according to the Palm Springs Fire Department.
Capt. Nathan Gunkel said firefighters hiked to the woman's location, a California Highway Patrol helicopter was summoned to perform a hoist rescue, and the victim was retrieved without incident.
She was taken to an awaiting ground ambulance, which transported her to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment of what were described as moderate injuries.
