And for all others asking...
Maine State Law exempts cab drivers from earning minimum wage. We do not get paid like waitresses either. Cab drivers do not fall under the labor laws of "service" employees because there is no guarantee that we will make $30 or more, per day, in tips. With the overhead costs of fuel, maintenance, taxes and general business expenses, it would cause the cab company to charge customers extremely high fares. Every city in Maine has their own legislation as to what and how cab companies can charge for fares. For example, Portland has meters in their cabs. Waterville does not have meters. Most cab companies in Waterville charge by zones. Also, cab drivers are exempt from overtime pay, sick and vacation pay, holiday pay. Thank your State legislators for this. Please tip your cab drivers and have a wonderful day!
Sincerely,
