Volunteers of the Glen Rock/Fair Lawn CSA invite local households to join for the 2021 season. CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. The CSA is run by its members to receive and redistribute produce from Circle Brook Farm in Sussex County, an 80-acre, USDA-certified all-organic operation. Each week, members come to a pick-up site in Fair Lawn to collect their share of produce. Members also take turns helping with the set-up and clean-up. We have a vibrant organic farming industry in New Jersey. We get a marvelous bounty, a day or two after it is picked. This is an amazing resource for us in Bergen County. Those who want to see the local farming sector thrive should support it by joining a CSA. The new season will run 24 weeks starting June 8. The final delivery is Nov. 16, the week before Thanksgiving. The produce available changes from week to week depending on what is in season, and typically includes about 10 varieties each week. Each member receives the same “share” or selection of vegetables. Circle Brook Farm grows some unusual crops such as tatsoi, kohlrabi, tomatillos, ground cherries, white sweet potatoes, and heirloom tomatoes, along with many types of leafy greens, which some members use for juicing. The farm also provides a regular supply of root vegetables, brassicas, melons, squashes, eggplants, and herbs. The basic subscription cost for the season is $625, which approximates the wholesale cost of the produce. Circle Brook also offers an optional subscription for organic eggs produced at the farm. The CSA also distributes fruit from a farm in the Hudson Valley, NY, that uses an eco-growing process. More information may be found on the web site: GlenRockFairLawnCSA.org
