Description

Sew a No-Fog, Collapse Resistant Mask from Fat Quarters. Room to Breathe! Are you tired of straining to see through glasses fogged up from your mask? Is your mask uncomfortably stuck up against your face when you breath? This Anti-fog collapse resistant mask will help solve those problems, and you can make it yourself! Use a sewing machine provided by MakerSpace, or bring your own! I will guide the class through the process of constructing this anti-fog mask. This includes: Cutting fabric to the correct dimensions Stitching with 1/4 in seam allowance Adding elastic with adjustable beads over the ears I will have some fabric available for your mask, but if there is a certain pattern you'd like, please feel free to bring your own! We'll need 2 fat quarters per mask. If you're wondering what a "Fat Quarter" is, I can explain. In the fabric section or store there is often a display of adorable patterned fabrics folded up into little squares, or included in color-coordinated multi-packs. These are "Fat Quarters". They are often used for quilting, or for smaller projects like this. Check out the pictures for a visual reference. Each guest will need one fat quarter to use for lining, and another to use for the side of the mask the world will see. If you get a pack with multiple coordinated fabrics, you're good! Otherwise, make sure you grab 2 singles. Don't forget matching thread! Sew a No-fog 3D Mask! is a class taught by Tess, of Fabled Fabrications. A props, accessories, & costume company she started with her boyfriend, Joey. The goal of Fabled Fabrications is to work with nerdy groups & individuals to bring their epic fantasy scenarios to life. They currently work with LARPs (Live action role play) to create immersive settings, garb, and characters that bring the fantasy storyline to the next level. Tess could be described theatre geek gone rogue. She has been creating characters and functional art for as long as she can remember. She learned to sew & crochet from her mother in her early teens, and has since used those skills to create costumes for plays & holidays, and personalized gifts for her friends & family. Her repertoire has expanded to include clay & paper mache sculpting, leatherwork, & a bit of graphic design. Tess believes that anything and everything is figureoutable when you put your mind to it, & there is no reason not to live out your nerdy dreams to the fullest! Minors are welcome to attend, though they must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. No additional ticket needed. Not recommended for children under 14 years of age. Basic knowledge of threading & using a sewing machine is required. If you are unsure, please attend one of our Sewing 101 Workshops. Each guest will leave with their very own 3D anti-fog room-to-breath mask! You'll also have the tools and knowledge to make more masks in the future, and a template to help you do so! Guests are asked to be on time for events. MakerSpace Charlotte dues-paying members can check their email for a monthly Access Code to unlock member discounts on Eventbrite during checkout. Face coverings are required. Masks must cover the nose and mouth, as mandated in NC. Hand sanitizer and bathrooms are available for hand washing during the event.
