Newton Mayor To Present City Budget Wednesday

NEWTON, MA — Newton and the rest of the commonwealth are beginning to see signs of recovery from the pandemic. It is with that backdrop, and a year of adjustments and new pandemic-related expenses, that Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller is set to present the city's next budget. Fuller is set to present the City of Newton's Fiscal Year 2022 Budget to the Newton City Council during a virtual Zoom meeting May 12. "This budget reflects our values," Fuller said. "While we're still feeling the economic effects of the pandemic on our revenue, this budget helps those that are hurting, provides excellent services, supports the Newton Public Schools, and makes long-lasting investments to make Newton a better City." Fuller said she plans to include preliminary plans for the city's first allocation of the $65.2 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding promised to Newton. "Helping the vulnerable, recovering and rebuilding, and investing in a better Newton will be our focus," she said. The Zoom City Council meeting begins at 7 p.m. on May 12.
