BRAINTREE, MA — Most Braintree students will go back to school a little earlier this fall. The school committee approved the school calendar at its meeting Thursday. Students in grades 1-12 will return to the classroom before Labor Day on Sept. 1., while preschool and kindergarten students return on Sept. 8. Teachers will report back to work on Aug. 31. This means students will have two days of classes and then five days off, including Labor Day and Rosh Hashanah, the first day of the Jewish new year on Sept. 8. School officials said they chose to have classes begin before Labor Day to avoid having the religious holiday be the first day of school. The final day of classes for the 2021-22 school year is June 16, without any cancellations and June 24 with five cancellations.
