Beverly To Hold Forum On Ageism, Human Rights For Older Residents

BEVERLY, MA —The Human Rights Committee of Beverly will hold a public forum on issues facing older residents — including ageism — Thursday morning. The committee, which seeks to "ensure that human rights and dignity are respected and protected for all in the community," will hold the forum virtually here at 10 a.m. To sign up in advance for a meeting link and instructions on how to join, call the Senior Center at 978-921-6017. The forum is in recognition of Older American Month in May. "There are many forces that work against the slogan that the Committee has adopted: "Unity is Our Community,'" the Human Rights Committee said. "Discrimination can take the form of ageism, racism, anti-semitism, and many other 'isms.' "They are all harmful to the safety and wellbeing of each and every one of us." Members of the Human Rights Committee and other community leaders will participate in the roundtable discussion to hear about the concerns, issues and ideas of the city's older residents and to talk about what is happening to address any discrimination.
