Description

RENTON, WA — Renton's clock tower will be relocated to a temporary location this week as construction work continues on the city's Downtown Utility Improvement Project. The latest phase in the multi-part project involves using a crane to pick up the clock tower at South 3rd Street and Burnett Avenue South and moving it to a parking lot, where it will stay for the next two or three months, officials said. Earlier in May, crews poured a concrete pad for the clock tower to rest on over two parking spaces. The concrete should be ready by Wednesday when the crane will be on-site to finish the move. (City of Renton) According to the city, businesses in the area will remain open during the move, and signs will direct visitors safely around the worksite. Work on the Downtown Utility Improvement Project is slated to continue through next fall, as contractors replace water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure that has deteriorated. Learn more about the project and sign up to receive updates by email or text on the city of Renton website.
