Glen Cove, N.Y. —Finley Middle School in the Glen Cove City School District recently hosted "Finley History Day." Students from 7th and 8th grade who are members of Jr. Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society participated in research on historical topics surrounding the 2021 National History Day theme, Communication in History: The Key To Understanding.
The Jr. Rho Kappa Honor Society students were instructed by advisors Ms. Amanda Corazza and Mr. Thomas Smith to research a historical theme based on its broad application to the world, national, or state and its relevance to both ancient and more recent history. Students researched and presented their final presentations to their peers.
The Jr. Rho Kappa Honor Society 7th grade students presented topics including American Sign Language (ASL) Communications, How Americans Communicated During WWII, and Forms of Communication in the 1400s. The 8th grade Jr. Rho Kappa students focused on leaders from the civil rights movement and the Tuskegee Airmen military unit from WWII.
