Arlington Art Project Envisions Climate Fight

ARLINGTON, MA — Arlington has received a grant of $17,350 from the Metropolitan Area Planning Council to fund a town-wide art project that envisions the fight against climate change. The project, "Remembrance of Climate Futures," commemorates anticipated "historic events" relating to climate change. The retrospective will come in the form of circular markers designed in the style of street signs and trail markers, installed in town-owned spaces such as parks, plazas and sidewalks. Developed by artist Tom Starr, the markers will imagine the viewer as someone in the 22nd century looking back on the present day. Green Teams will work with municipal departments, commissions and community organizations to develop content for the markers. They will be designed to identify examples of climate resilience strategies that support low-income, elderly and linguistically isolated populations. The Metropolitan Area Planning Council awarded more than $400,000 to communities in the greater Boston region. This is the third round of funding distributed through the "Accelerating Climate Resiliency" grant program in partnership with The Barr Foundation.
