DANBURY, CT — Firefighters extricate a driver following a collision with a pickup truck on Thursday evening. The Danbury Fire Department received multiple calls reporting a serious accident in the area of 35 Lake Avenue Extension around 7:30 p.m. First responders found a pickup truck and a small SUV had collided head-on, and then the SUV rolled over. The driver of the pickup truck was the lone occupant of that vehicle and sustained minor injuries. The driver of the SUV was also alone in the vehicle, but was pinned inside the wreckage. After stabilizing the SUV, firefighters set to work cutting the victim out of the vehicle using the "jaws of life." According to fire officials, the victim was "heavily entrapped" and the extrication took approximately 20 minutes. EMS technicians from Danbury Hospital treated and then transported the patient to the hospital's trauma center. The accident is under investigation by the Danbury Police Department. Lake Avenue Extension was closed for approximately 3-1/2 hours following the crash.
