DENVER, CO — A man was arrested in connection with the shooting of a Denver police officer, authorities announced Monday. Pedro Juan Gallegos, 40, faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree criminal trespass and possession of a weapon by a previous offender, the Denver Police Department said. "The officer who was shot remains in critical condition at this time," the department said in a news release Monday morning. The officer was shot in the leg after he was called Saturday night to a home near 42nd Avenue and Alcott Street, Denver Police Division Chief Ron Thomas said in a news conference Sunday. The officer was responding to a trespassing report, officials said.
