Funeral Services Set For UT Linebacker Jake Ehlinger

AUSTIN, TX — Funeral arrangements have been made for University of Texas football player Jake Ehlinger, who was found dead near campus Thursday. Services will be held at noon Wednesday at Riverbend Church Home for Hope, 4124 N. Capital of Texas Hwy., in Austin. In lieu of flowers, the Ehlinger family is asking the community to make donations to Fellowship of Christian Athletes c/o Steve Vittorini, 478 Live Oak Lane, in Spicewood, according to an online obituary. Ehlinger was found around 12:18 p.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of West 22nd Street, which is near the university's downtown campus, according to a report by the Austin American-Statesman. He was the captain of the Westlake football team and a well-respected linebacker at the University of Texas, officials said. "Jake Ehlinger's legacy will live on forever in Westlake Football. His pure toughness and willingness to do anything for his team is unmatched in the years that we've been together at Westlake," said Westlake Head Football Coach Todd Dodge. Longhorn Football Coach Steve Sarkisian said being a Longhorn meant everything to Ehlinger, and he embodied all that it meant to be one. "In the short time we were able to get to know him, he always was a joy to be around and gave everything he had in workouts, meetings, practice and in life," Sarkistan said. Those who are unable to attend Wednesday's services, will have future opportunities to celebrate Ehlinger's life and legacy, officials said.
