I think you are creating a mental image of an extremist nature, then using it to brand all nationalism as equally barbaric. A redneck, uneducated, without a job being proud of his country and Trump because that is all he has is a far cry from rational feelings of worth and knowledge of history. The USA was a special nation that fought a war to rid the world of fascism, another to stop slavery, became a beacon of hope for those seeking liberty and a better life—-something still happening today mind you. It is healthy and good to want to protect these things. On the other hand many radical woke leftists seek to destroy this wonderful experiment in democracy and they use quotes like you did to deceive and achieve their aims. examples: Rather than celebrate the birth that of freedom and our independence in 1776 they only wish to remember 1619, and forget the great amount of evil that existed all over the world in other places. Rather than having a healthy population they wish to destroy our borders and replace our freedom loving population with those new and unfamiliar with the idea. Rather than remember our greatness they pull or monuments down so we forget who we are. Rather than celebrate meritocracy they push equity...pulling those down who produce. Rather than seeing all as Americans they are regressive racists seeing only color. Rather than letting a free market and human choice build our economy they wish to tax and socialize. So says people who shout “down with the bourgeois and let the revolution live forever!”? I will choose the USA.
