Update: PCH Reopens In Both Directions After Head-On Crash

SANTA MONICA, CA — All lanes of the Pacific Coast Highway were reopened following a severe, head-on crash Monday involving multiple vehicles, according to the Santa Monica Police Department. The head-on crash happened in the 1000 block of Pacific Coast Highway around 1:28 p.m., police said. The lanes were closed in both north and southbound directions for about three hours. A driver in a silver Honda traveling northbound on Pacific Coast Highway swerved into the southbound lanes for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a black Jeep traveling southbound, police said. Both drivers, the only people in the vehicles, were taken to hospitals with serious to moderate injuries, police said. Traffic was stopped through Santa Monica, all the way to Pacific Palisades and Malibu. The Santa Monica (10) Freeway was backed up through the McClure Tunnel to the 20th Street exit offramp. Traffic was diverted off the freeway to 4th Street. The Santa Monica Police Department's Major Accident Response Team will continue the investigation.
