VALLEY CENTER, CA — Two motorists were gravely injured in a suspected DUI crash on a northern San Diego County street, authorities reported Monday. The wreck occurred about 1:15 p.m. Saturday, when a 56-year-old Valley Center man lost control of his southbound 2008 Ford F-450 on Valley Center Road, north of Lilac Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. The truck veered to the right off the roadway and hit a fire hydrant, then re-entered the street and struck two trees in a center median before crossing into a northbound lane and colliding head-on with a 2018 Lexus ES350 driven by a 50-year-old Escondido resident, the CHP reported. Paramedics took both men to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Alcohol was believed to have been a factor in the accident, according to the Highway Patrol. — City News Service
